Kathleen was drawn to yoga with minimal background in movement or athletics. A faint inner voice inspired Kathleen to take a yoga class at age 20. In that class, Kathleen discovered an inherent and almost freakish amount of flexibility especially in her spine and hip region. Cool she thought, but the practice also elicited a sense of elation, gratitude and immediate commitment. Upon her quest for the perfect style of yoga, Kathleen was blessed to find teachers within the Ashtanga Yoga tradition that provided the guidance to harness her flexibility until she had the muscular strength to support her natural hyper mobility.
As an instructor, Kathleen offers a breath-based yoga practice grounded in Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga System. Her daily practice honors the tradition, lineage and philosophy of Ashtanga yoga while her classes offer a playful and laid back yet strong modification of the series. Coming from a very supple body and working in the direction of balance, Kathleen believes that a physical practice guided towards harmonizing strength and flexibility can translate into any of lifes obstacles. She believes that a challenging yoga practice is available to all and hopes to bring each student to his or personal edge, while providing the space for laughter, happiness and peace.
Kathleen has been blessed to study under Ron Reid and Diane Bruni during her 200 hour training at Torontoâs Downward Dog Centre where she continues to practice. She has deepened her practice and teaching skills by studying with Shiva Rea at Yoga Tree in San Francisco, David Robson of the Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Toronto, Yoga Sutra in NYC, Om Yoga in NYC and Kino MacGregor of the Miami Life Center.Â
Kathleen is preparing for her first trip to Mysore India in 2011, the birth place of Ashtanga yoga.
